Products for Lithium batteries
The PVD technology can meet the market demand for anode materials for compact lithium batteries. The electrode area, concentrated in the battery volume unit, is crucial for this purpose.
The traditional technology of metal lithium rolling is limited by thicknesses 35 ... 40 microns. The PVD technology has no such limits: the thinner lithium layer is, the less expensive product is made. Reasonable PVD lithium thicknesses are at the range of 10 ... 20 microns.
Thin films of metal lithium, deposited onto current collectors of metal foils or preliminary metallized polymer webs, may be directly used in the primary batteries.
Successful solution of the known cycling problem in the secondary batteries (accumulators with the metal lithium anodes) increases the demand for the materials with lithium less than 20 microns thick dramatically. It may be same foils, metallized films or even lithium coated solid polymer electrolytes.
The PVD technology may also offer the solutions for lithium-ion batteries, where the anode is a structure for lithium reversible diffusion.
